VISIT TO NIOSH

In first semester we have visit to NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health) with our lecturer Ms Zahirah, all HRM 1 and DSM students attend to that visit. They give us some briefing about NIOSH, NIOSH Malaysia is a company limited by guarantee owned by the Government of Malaysia. In the words of the Minister of Human Resources, Malaysia, NIOSH would be a "critical catalyst" in the promotion of occupational safety and health that would also serve as the "backbone" to create a "self-regulating occupational safety and health culture" in Malaysia. NIOSH Malaysia conducts regular Occupational Safety and Health-related training around the country. As the “training arm” of the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), IMHO, the courses offered by NIOSH are recognised by that department.

The mission of the NIOSH is to generate new knowledge in the field of occupational safety and health and to transfer that knowledge into practice for the betterment of workers. To accomplish this mission, NIOSH conducts scientific research, develops guidance and authoritative recommendations, disseminates information, and responds to requests for workplace health hazard evaluations. NIOSH provides national and world leadership to prevent work-related illness, injury, disability, and death by gathering information, conducting scientific research, and translating the knowledge gained into products and services, including scientific information products, training videos, and recommendations for improving safety and health in the workplace.

Train the candidates, enabling them to perform OSH activities/programmes to meet the requirements of OSHA and its Regulations.
